Ground Beef Salisbury Steak
by:
Maude Howard
Ground Beef Salisbury Steak Recipe makes patties of hamburger meat, egg, bread crumbs, onion and poultry seasoning fried in oil and served with gravy of butter, flour, mushrooms, milk and bullion cubes to create this delicious Salisbury steak dish.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb hamburger meat
1 egg
3 tablespoons bread crumbs
2 tablespoons diced onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
2 tablespoons oil
For Gravy:
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 4oz can mushrooms
3 cups milk
3 beef bullion cubes
DIRECTIONS
Mix ingredients other than for gravy AND oil together and form patties to desired size(s).
Heat a heavy skillet over medium heat. Add oil to skillet once skillet is heated. Place steaks into skillet and brown, turn steaks to brown on other side - about 4 minutes per side. Remove steaks to a holding platter. Drain excess grease.
For Gravy: Place butter into skillet on medium heat, allow to melt but not turn brown. Place flour into butter and mix to remove all clumps of flour. Stir occasionally cooking until flour/butter mixture (roux) turns a golden brown. Gradually add milk, stirring to a smooth consistency. Add beef bullion cubes. Add mushrooms with liquid. Stir and gradually break-down and stir beef cubes into liquid.
Return steaks to the gravy. Stir all ingredients about every 4 to 5 minutes to prevent sticking. Turn steaks every 4 to 5 minutes. Cook steaks until no longer pink or to an internal temperature of 165°F.
