INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb. ground beef, 75/25
  • 2 large hamburger buns, 5 - 6 inches
  • 2 Tbsp ranch dressing
  • 2 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 slices American cheese, optional
  • lettuce, optional
  • onion slices, optional
  • tomato slices, optional
  • condiments of choice
  • For B.J. seasoning:
  • <2 tsp paprika/span>
  • 2 tsp thyme, ground
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper

DIRECTIONS

  • Heat a flat griddle to 350°F. Divide the ground beef into 2 portions 8 oz each. Form the portions into balls and cup firmly in hands to compress. Place the balls onto a flat surface and using a plate or something flat, press down on the balls forming two ground beef patties about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Combine all ingredients for the B.J. seasoning and stir to mix well. Liberally sprinkle both sides of each of the meat patties with the seasoning. (Let over seasoning will keep well in an air tight container.) Spread butter or margarine over top and bottom cut portions of buns. Lightly sprinkle the butter with garlic powder. Set buns aside.
  • Place the meat patties onto the hot griddle and cook for 2 minutes, flip the patties over. Mash each patty with a spatula to return the patties to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Cook the patties for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, flip the patties over and cook for another 2 minutes. Flip the patties over. Check the internal temperature of each patty with a thermometer. If using cheese, place two slices of cheese on each hamburger patty. For well done, remove the patties at 165°F.
  • If griddle is large enough, begin toasting the buns by placing the buttered side of the buns onto the griddle. Monitor the buns and remove from griddle when the buns are a golden brown. When patties are at desired temperature, remove from griddle and place onto a plate. If griddle was not large enough for the buns, toast the buns per previous directions. Once buns are toasted, spread the top buns liberally with ranch dressing. Place a hamburger patty onto the bottom of each bun. Add lettuce, onion, tomato, and condiments as desired.
