INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk

DIRECTIONS

  • Melt butter in skillet over medium heat.
  • Slowly add flour to the skillet, stirring to combine butter and flour. Stir mixture until flour begins to take on a light brown color. Don't let the mixture get too dark.
  • Slowly add a small amount of milk to the skillet stirring continuously. The flour will begin to lump up. Continue adding milk and stirring to dissolve the lumps.
  • Over time, the lumps will stop forming and the sauce will be smooth. Continue to stir and cook the sauce. Once the sauce coats the back of a spoon the sauce is ready to serve.
