INGREDIENTS

  • For the Rolls:
  • 1 packet active dry yeast, 1/4 oz.
  • 1/2 cups warm water (105° to 115°F)
  • 1/2 cup milk, scalded
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • For the Filling:
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbl. ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup raisins, optional
  • For the Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 to 6 Tbl. hot water

DIRECTIONS

  • Proof yeast by placing warm water in a bowl and sprinkling yeast over water. In a mixer bowl, place milk, sugar, 1/3 cup melted butter, salt, egg and 2 cups of flour. Mix until smooth. Add the proofed yeast. Add 1 1/2 cups flour. Mix to form dough which will be very sticky.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured board and knead for 10 minutes. Place dough into a greased bowl, move dough around to coat with oil and cover for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until dough doubles in size.
  • Melt 1/2 cup of butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon. After dough has doubled, remove from bowl to floured board and punch down. Roll dough into a rectangle 15 inches wide and 9 inches high. Brush the dough heavily with melted butter. Sprinkle the dough with the sugar/cinnamon mixture to coat well. Sprinkle raisins over dough. Starting at bottom, roll the dough to form a log 15 inches wide. Pinch the seam to close the log. Cut the log into 15 portions.
  • Butter the bottom of a cookie sheet and sprinkle with sugar. Place the cinnamon rolls, touching, onto the cookie sheet and set aside to rise and double, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 30 minutes. While rolls are baking, combine remaining melted butter with powdered sugar and vanilla. Add 1 Tbl. hot water at a time to get desired consistency for glaze. Allow rolls to cool slightly before applying glaze.
