INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 small onion, minced

DIRECTIONS

  • Shape sausage into 4 to 6 flat cakes. Put sausage cakes into a skillet. Add water; cover tightly and cook slowly about 5 minutes.
  • Remove cover and cook slowly until well browned on both sides. Remove cakes to cooking pan of a chafing dish and keep warm.
  • Drain off all but 3 tablespoons fat from skillet. Brown onion in the fat. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Stir in broth; simmer 5 minutes.
  • Pour gravy over sausage cakes and heat thoroughly.
