INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbl. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 5 Tbl. butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk

DIRECTIONS

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Cut the butter into small pieces and add to the dry mixture. Using a pasty cutter, or two knives or forks, cut the butter into the dry mixture. Cut the butter in until the pieces of butter are a little larger than a pea. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Add the buttermilk to the dry mixture and stir to mix well. The mixture will be a little on the dry side. Turn the dough out onto a flour dusted cutting board. Gently knead the dough to make the dough come together. Press the dough out flat, about 1 inch thick. Fold one end of the dough over and onto the other end. Flatten again and repeat 4 or 5 times. Flatten dough and using a floured biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out the biscuits, twisting the cutter to loosen the biscuits.
  • Place the biscuits onto the baking sheet so that the biscuits just touch. Once all biscuits are on the baking sheet, place the baking sheet into the preheated oven on the middle rack. Bake for 18 - 20 minutes.
