INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ripe Hass avocado
  • 1 small jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/4 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, cracked
  • 1 tsp. coarse salt
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • Tortilla chips, any variety

DIRECTIONS

  • Halve the avocado and discard the pit. Scoop the flesh into a small bowl and add the jalapeno and onions.
  • On a cutting board, chop the garlic then sprinkle it with salt. Using the side of your knife and applying pressure with the heel of your hand, mash the garlic and salt into a paste.
  • Add the salty garlic paste and lemon juice to the avocado and mash the avocado with a fork until it's fairly smooth.
  • Scoop it into a serving dish and surround it with a few handfuls of good-quality tortilla chips.
