INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb. ground turkey, 93%
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp Panko bread crumbs
  • 3 Tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Sliced tomato (optional)
  • Sliced pickled avocado (optional)
  • Lettuce (optional)
  • Other condiments (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  • Place the turkey into a bowl and gently break the turkey apart without over working the meat. Combine the baking soda and the water and mix well to dissolve the soda. Drizzle the soda water, soy sauce, butter, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, black pepper and salt over the turkey.
  • Using your hands, gently mix all the ingredients without over working but enough to combine all ingredients well. Divide the turkey mixture into 4 4 ounce portions and form into patties about 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick.
  • Place the oil into a cold non-stick skillet. Place the turkey patties into the skillet. Turn heat to medium. When the patties start to sizzle a little, cover the skillet with a lid and cook the patties for 3 minutes. Flip the patties over and cook for 2 minutes. Flip the patties over and cook for another 2 minutes. Continue flipping and cooking at 2 minute intervals until the internal temperature of the patties reaches 165°F.
  • Remove patties to a plate and let rest for 5 minutes.
