INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 lb. hamburger meat, cooked and drained
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 bell pepper, chopped
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup catsup
1 garlic clove, minced
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 (6oz) can tomato paste
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
DIRECTIONS
1:
Heat cast iron skillet or other heavy bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil. When oil begins to shimmer, add the hamburger meat and brown. Once meat is browned, drain grease using a colander.
2:
Chop onion and bell pepper. Return meat to skillet and return to heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and stir to mix well. Cook for 5 minutes stirring occasionally.
3:
Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet and mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for an hour or so, stirring occasionally. The longer the mixture cooks the better the ingredients meld. Add water as necessary to prevent the mixture from drying out.
4:
Serve on hamburger buns along with pickle slices if desired.
