Picadillo de Res Spiced Beef Filling

Picadillo de Res Spiced Beef Filling Recipe is a spiced meat filling used in Mexico as a filling for masa dishes using beef, onion, garlic, tomatoes, apple, raisins, ground cinnamon, cloves and cumin to create this delicious picadillo recipe.


INGREDIENTS
1 pound lean beef, coarsely chopped or cooked and shredded
2 tablespoons lard or oil
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 apple, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/4 cup seedless raisins, plumped in hot water and drained
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch each ground cloves and ground cumin
1/2 cup broth or water
Salt to taste


DIRECTIONS
1: Saute meat in the oil or lard until browned. Add onion and garlic and cook until soft.
 
2: Add tomatoes, apple, raisins, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, and broth. Simmer until liquid is absorbed (about 25 minutes). Check the seasoning and salt to taste.
