by:    Holly Webb

Crispy Fried Fish Sandwich Recipe uses fish, cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper, egg, buttermilk, oil, lettuce, tartar sauce, and hamburger buns in making this delicious fried fish sandwich recipe.

INGREDIENTS
4 4oz fish fillets of choice
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 large egg
1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
Vegetable oil (for frying)
4 lettuce leaves, shredded
6 tbsp tartar sauce, optional
4 hamburger buns

DIRECTIONS
1: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

2: In another bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together. Dip each fish fillet into the wet mixture, then coat evenly in the dry cornmeal mixture. Press gently to ensure an even coating.

3: Toast cut side of buns if desired.

4: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully fry the fillets for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the fish from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Place fillets on bottom of buns. Top fillet with lettuce. Cover cut side of tops of buns with tartar sauce. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, lemon wedges, and a side of fries or coleslaw.
