Johnny's Cornbread

Johnny's Cornbread Recipe is the southern classic and is so easy to prepare and bake using vegetable oil, self-rising white buttermilk cornmeal mix, milk and egg.

INGREDIENTS
|
3 T vegetable shortening, oil, or drippings
|
2 C self-rising white buttermilk corn meal mix (I use Aunt Jemima®)
|
1 1/2 cup milk
|
1 egg, beaten
|

DIRECTIONS
|
1:
Heat oven to 425°F. Heat shortening in 10-inch oven-proof skillet or 8 or 9-inch square baking pan in oven 3 minutes; tilt skillet to coat bottom evenly.

Combine ingredients. Add milk and egg; mix until blended. Add heated shortening; mix well.
|

3:
Pour into hot skillet; bake 20 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
